Bono’s big Valentine’s charity auction has vastly succeeded the organisers' expectations with proceeds of over £20 million.
The U2 singer teamed up with artist Damien Hirst to front The (Red) Auction in New York on Thursday, flogging a load of contemporary art to raise funds to combat Aids in Africa, as we told you this week.
However, takings of a near-record breaking £21.3 considerably beat pre-auction estimates of £14.5 million.
The cash will now go the United Nations' Hiv relief initiative in Africa.
Jolly good show chaps.
