The ever-radiant Scarlett Johansson played her Tom Waits covers album ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head’ to a select group of journalists in New York yesterday (February 12); a session which revealed that none other than David Bowies appears on the record.
Bowie lends his inimitable vocals to two album tracks, ‘Falling Down’ and ‘Fannin Street’, on what is already a record full of guest appearances. Johansson met Bowie at a party back in 2006 and admitted that she was speechless at meeting her “first love.”
As previously reported, TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek has produced the album, while Celebration’s Sean Antanaitis and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner also appear.
At the launch, Johansson said that Waits is happy with the record, saying, according to Billboard: "I sent him some of the early, early recordings, and he said, 'Go ahead.' I've heard he's very pleased."
The album of 10 Tom Waits covers and one original track ‘Song For Jo’ is released Stateside on May 20. The track-listing is as follows:
Fawn
Town With No Cheer
Falling Down
Anywhere I Lay My Head
Fannin' Street
Song for Jo
Green Grass
I Wish I Was in New Orleans
I Don't Want To Grow Up
No One Knows I'm Gone
Who Are You?
