The Rolling Stones were in Berlin last night to open the city’s famous film festival with a screening of their movie Shine a Light.
The walked the red carpet with the documentary’s famous director Martin Scorsese, who took time to speak to the waiting media.
Shine a Light captures The Stones both onstage and backstage during their show at New York’s Beacon Theatre in 2006. Scorsese used 26 cameras to capture the band in all their live glory.
Scorsese said: "(Their music is) something that has inspired me constantly throughout the years. Whenever I saw the show I'd get excited - I wanted to get a camera up there. We tried to get as close as possible to the energy of a live concert."
Keith Richards explained that Scorsese’s filming methods were in no way intrusive, saying: "We didn't even see them (the cameras), we didn't even know they were there, and that was the important thing to me. As far as I'm concerned, we played three nights at the Beacon and Martin happened to capture it on film. It's a beautiful way to do it."
Patti Smith was amongst the celebrities in attendance. The film opens in the UK on April 11.
