A former Canadian radio presenter is suing the White Stripes over a sample which appears in their song ‘Jumble, Jumble’.
Dominique Payette claims that the 10-second clip, in which she can be heard interviewing a little girl in French about a “first time” experience, was used without her position.
Payette, now a university lecturer, has filled a $70,000 lawsuit against the band and also asked that the album on which it appears, ‘De Stijl’, is discontinued.
In the clip, Payette’s conversation with the girl ends prematurely as the music begins and therefore, she says, could be taken out of context.
“This is a prepubescent child, and I don't like that little allusion," Payette told AP.
"She may have been talking about her first time planting a flower, or seeing Santa Claus. But when you're listening for the first time, I don't like the sexual connotation at all."
It is not clear how the band came across the sample or what context it was used in.
