Boris Johnson says he hopes to recruit Amy Winehouse to his campaign team as he bids to become the Mayor of London.
The conservative MP made the plea for Winehouse’s support after Sir Elton John publicly backed the Liberal Democrat candidate, Brian Paddick, at a recent star-studded fundraising event.
Johnson said that he “couldn’t believe it” when Sir Elton pledged his support to Paddick “because Elton and David Furnish send us a Christmas card every year.”
“Elton and I are going to have to see what's going on," he told London’s LBC radio station today (February 5th).
Turning his attention to Winehouse, Johnson said it would be “fantastic” if he could get the singer to support his campaign.
Johnson, who will also be competing against current London Mayor Ken Livingstone in the May elections, joked that she could sing a special version of her hit ‘Rehab’.
"'Ken Livingstone - no, no, no.' Something like that," he sang.
