Richard Hawley will make a special guest appearance on the new Elbow album, frontman Guy Garvey has revealed.
Hawley features on the track ‘The Fix’ – a duet with Garvey – which is about the story of two men who fix a horse race.
The idea for the track came after the pair met in Tennessee in 2006 and decided to write “a really old fashioned kind of song”.
"The Fix is about two fellows who fixed a horse race in every way possible; they've drugged the horse, they've bribed the stewards, and they've fixed to win, and they're talking about how they're going to spend their money,” Garvey told BBC 6Music.
Garvey explained that he wrote the lyrics to the song while Hawley was allowed to edit any which he didn’t like.
"He plays the most amazing table top guitar solo at the end. It was so much fun making it with him. We recorded the vocal facing each other like Frank and Deano might have, years ago,” he added.
Hawley, who hinted at possible guest appearances with the band, wouldn't go as far as to compare them to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, however.
"That's in his fantasies," he said. "We recorded it live facing each other, but I think it was probably more like Laurel and Hardy."
The band’s new album, ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, is released on March 17th.
