Precocious and charming; ‘I like What You Say’ is the simple and affectionate new single from New York trio Nada Surf, which precedes the release of the band’s fifth studio album ‘Lucky’. Although the melody is catchy it does demonstrate an air of monotony but merely acts as infective fuel to establish it as one of the more uplifting songs this year. Fans of MTV shows will no doubt here this song over the top of a montage for a teenage drama and that immediate association does stray somewhat from the effortlessness at hand. Still, it’s certainly hard not to feel content after hearing this song for the first couple of times and it even offers an early yearning for the summer months to come.
Released 04/02/08 on City Slang.
