The Beatles will become the first band to play in space next week as their hit ‘Across The Universe’ is beamed into orbit.
NASA will transmit the song over their Deep Space Network on Monday (February 4th) to mark the 40th anniversary of the day the band recorded the hit.
The idea has been given the full backing of Sir Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono, the widow of former Beatle John Lennon.
In a message to the space agency, McCartney told them to “send my love to the aliens”; while Ono said it was “the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe."
The song will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris - 431 light years from Earth – and will travel at a speed of 186,000 miles per second.
The transmission of the song also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the space agency, reports AP.
