Amy Winehouse's Label Thank Media Frenzy For Record Sales

It has kept her profile high...

Amy Winehouse’s record label Universal has admitted that the constant media attention around the singer and her problems has helped with record sales.

The singer, who is currently in rehab battling her drug addictions, has shifted a massive 3.4million copies of ‘Back To Black’, and in the UK chalked up the highest selling record of 2007.

Quoted by various online sources, Universal Music International’s Hassan Choudry thinks that the sales figure does have a correlation to the endless column inches Ms Winehouse receives.

He said: "There's no getting away from the fact all the coverage has kept Amy Winehouse's profile at the highest level.

"Everyone (at the label) is extremely happy with the amount of records we've sold and a lot of it has been down to some amazing marketing opportunities in the market when the artist wasn't available."

  • Amy’s album deserves the praise it gets. Actually it deserves more. Forget her personal life....listen to the album before you judge.

  • I agree. Amy’s talent is evident in her music when she is sober. She can’t and shouldn’t be compared to Britney, who is a no-talent hack that is looking for the exposure to further her pathetic career and life.

  • No, Amy’s great music is the reason she sold the albums. Here in the US no one has hardly heard of her. It is her incredible voice and song writing abilities that have caused her to sale 3.4 million albums. Bad press doesn’t mean better records sales. So why would this principle apply to Amy? Give the girl credit where it is due.

  • Cumon people. Yea she’s talented and the girl can sang... when she’s sober, but there’s no denying that the huge media frenzy that’s been surrounding her has helped record sales enormously. Controverty surroudning her builds up buzz, more people hear, people research, people discover her and hey they buy her album.
