A Heath Ledger self-made film which features the late movie star drowning to a Nick Drake song has been hailed as eerily prophetic today, with the songwriter’s estate deciding on what to do with the footage.
The Australian actor, found dead in his New York apartment of a suspected overdose yesterday (January 22), was famously a huge fan of Nick Drake who died in similar circumstances of an overdose at the age of 26.
The black-and-white film, titled ‘A Place To Be’, was shot and edited entirely by Ledger and was premiered at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival in September last year.
The video features Leger filming himself drowning a bathtub to the song ‘Black Eyed Dog’, which is chillingly claimed to be the last song that Drake ever wrote before overdosing on the antidepressant amitriptyline in 1974.
The video is property of the Nick Drake estate who are reportedly currently deciding on what to do with the material. An autopsy is due to be carried out on Ledger later today to ascertain the cause of his death.
