Foo Fighters and Beyonce Knowles have both confirmed that they’re still performing at this year’s Grammy Awards despite the writers’ strike which threatens the event.
US scriptwriters have been on strike since November 5 over royalty payments, and there are fears that a picket line at the Grammy’s on February 10 could keep performers away from the event.
But in a statement, Foo Fighters’ manager John Silva said that he hoped the strike could be resolved and added: "There's no question that the Grammys are a highlight of every year for the industry and audiences alike, and we're thrilled that the Foo Fighters will be performing on the show."
As previously reported, the band have invited a member of the public to perform with them at the event. Front man Dave Grohl said: "Thanks to My Grammy Moment, a musician from that next generation is going to get the chance to audition on YouTube to play with us at the Grammys as part of our orchestra."
The Recording Academy behind the Grammy Awards has previously asked the Writer’s Guild to lift any potential picket line from the ceremony, something they have said is unlikely to happen.
It’s hoped that the announcement from The Recording Academy that two big names are playing will encourage others to follow suit.
