The hotly-tipped Adele failed to reach the number one spot this week, after being narrowly pipped to the post by Basshunter’s ‘Now You’re Gone.’
Adele’s ‘Chasing Pavements’ charted one spot above Britney Spears’ ‘Piece of Me’ in what was a quiet week on the chart for new entries.
Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Superstar’ and Rihanna’s ‘Don’t Stop The Music’ respectively made up the rest of the top five.
Over in the album chart, those MOR piano-indie-pop types Scouting For Girls climbed to the number one spot with their eponymous debut.
Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ slipped a further four places to number six, while British Sea Power scored the highest chart new entry with ‘Do You Like Rock Music? at ten.’
