Beggars Banquet five piece iLiKETRAiNS have paid tribute to controversial American chess enigma Bobby Fischer after news of his death was reported in Iceland today.
The band famously told the story of Fischer’s mental decline in their song ‘A Rook House For Bobby’ which featured on the 2006 album ‘Progress Reform’.
Speaking to Gigwise singer Dave Martin said: “It was with great sorrow that I heard on the news today of the death of Bobby Fischer, inspirational if controversial American chess champion.”
Drummer Simon Fogal added: “Bobby Fischer was a man with a brilliant mind and questionable politics. He has an incredible life story and has certainly left his mark in History.
“I feel we ought to remember him for his outstanding achievements in the field of chess but also that he was human, and as such was far from perfect.”
Bass player Alistair Bowis has been kind enough to write an obituary for us, you can read it HERE.
