Some people sweep the dust off their withered wings, think “great! a new day!” before flittering off into vanishing point, or else swallow a gallon of red bull (we hear on the ol’ grapevine it has the same effect): “look at me, I got dem wingz”. Turin Brakes never got wings in their stockings, nor red bull, for it would appear nowt has changed since they released their debut in 2001. Back then it was cute, quaint, and forgivable; you were younger, and the world was so much nicer. Life changes, people grow the **** up, or die; things evolve into something more substantial. You want, no need, more to feed your unyielding musical appetite. It would be okay, if this wasn’t the same mass produced drivel you hear each time you turn on the wireless. They may have started the race first with good intentions, but surely you have one Turin Brakes CD to get you through those melancholy moments and you won’t need another, carbon copy of the original. Listen to ‘State of Things’ instead. It’s basically the same song.
Released 14/01/08 on EMI.
