Sony BMG have signed a deal with Amazon which will enable music fans to download songs by their artists free of copyright protection.
The company’s entire back-catalogue, which includes tracks by the Foo Fighters, will appear on Amazon’s download site by the end of January.
The deal means that Amazon MP3, which is currently only available in America, now features Digital Rights Management (DRM) free music from ever major label.
The deal will put more pressure on market leader Apple, who only provide a limited number of DRM free songs via their iTunes music store.
DRM technology limits the number of devices that a download can be played on.
Earlier this week, SonyBMG announced that fans would also be able to download DRM free music by obtaining gift cards through their Platinum MusicPass service.
