British Sea Power last night launched their eagerly-awaited new album ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’ with a blistering set at Notting Hill's Czech Embassy.
In front of a crowd of just 200, the band tore through seven tracks from the album and a host of old favourites. The record, due for release on Monday January 14, is already being hailed by critics as the band’s best, and the first great British album of the year.
Every song was rapturously received by the crowd of journalists, invited guests and competition winners, but the most fervent responses were reserved for new single ‘Waving Flags’, breakthrough hit ‘Remember Me’ and fan favourite ‘The Spirit of St. Louis’.
The chaotic gig ended with fans invading the stage and guitarist Noble being carried aloft through the crowd, destroying a light in the process.
Speaking to Gigwise after the concert, bassist Hamilton said: “The reason we chose to celebrate the album’s launch at an embassy was all down to the new single, which is all about welcoming migrants to Britain. Plus, we really like the Czechs and their beer. And they’re the only one’s who’d have us!”
