Former Beatles star Ringo Starr will debut a new song tonight (January 11th) as Liverpool’s reign as the Capital of Culture officially begins.
Starr will perform on the roof of the city’s St George's Hall, while The Wombats will perform in front of the building.
Both Starr and The Wombats will also play at the new Echo Arena on Saturday (January 12th), which will include a performance by Echo and The Bunnymen.
During the course of 2008 over 350 events will be held in Liverpool, helping to attract an extra 2 million visitors to the city, reports the BBC.
Tonight’s show will begin at 8pm with 30,000 people expected to brave the weather to witness the event.
