A prison gig celebrating 40 years since Johnny Cash’s famous concert at Folsom State Prison has been axed at the eleventh hour.
The show was due to take place this coming Sunday (January 13) at the exact cafeteria in the prison where the late country legend performed four decades ago.
Despite the prison claiming that the show has been axed over security concerns and worries over media access and coverage, promoter Jonathan Holiff believes the prison have broken a promise saying that he was “in tears” when he found out late on Monday.
The show, which was due to be streamed live on the internet, was set to merge live music with classic Johnny Cash tracks.
There are no reported plans to reschedule the show.
Johnny Cash’s 1968 gig at the prison was later made into a landmark live album. He sadly passed away in 2003.
