Annie Lennox Attacks Free Downloading

Annie Lennox won’t be following in Radiohead’s footsteps after attacking free downloading on the internet.

The former Eurythmics singer says that she’s at a crossroads in her career at the moment as she doesn’t want to commit to a record deal or give away her songs online.

Lennox, who has a fear of gas masks, said:  "I don't want to go into the corporate structure. I never wanted to be in the corporate structure in the first place.

"I have issues in some way with people downloading. If I want to make a certain kind of record I personally have to get the band together, the studio engineer, the producer.

"I have to pay a good deal of money to make that happen. If people just download it that means I'm indulging in a very expensive hobby.”

She finished to spinner.com: "I don't quite see how people can do that and have it make sense. I can't go into Starbucks and demand free coffee. We're in this capitalistic system where nothing is for free except music."

  • I agree with Annie Lennox, it’s not right to expect music for free. I am a songwriter who had a number2 song in the charts,i now want to put an album together, but having no deal, will have to fund it myself,(and it’s not cheap) then! am I expected to give it away? Sadly I can’t share my music in this hobby like way, and looks like my songs will stay in the back bedroom.
