MPs Want Code Of Conduct For Online Auction Sites

To stop ticket-touting...

MPs are expected to call for an industry code of conduct against online auction sites, in a new report to be published on Thursday.

They will claim that auction websites such as eBay have “exploited fans” by allowing the inflated resale of tickets.

In the report carried out by the Culture, Media and Sport select committee, it’s understood that MPs will suggest that the Office of Fair Trading threaten action if no code is agreed.

It is currently not an offence to resell concert tickets, although the growth of online auction sites has increased calls for a review of the law.

The report follows concerns that auction sites are being exploited by organised criminals who are selling ‘secondary market’ tickets at increased prices.

Despite strict measures, tickets for Led Zeppelin’s recent reunion concert at the O2 Arena in London appeared online at over £1,000 a pair.

The study will also show the impact of ticket-touting on performers, promoters and the public, explains the BBC.

  • @Gigwise It's because the only way they could get Dave Rowntree to play the drums was to hypnotise him. Too strenuous otherwise, poor chap.
