Sir Paul McCartney underwent “a routine medical operation” on his heart last year, his spokesperson has confirmed.
The former Beatle is understood to have undergone the coronary angioplasty after complaining about not feeling well.
The operation, which opens up the hearts arteries to stimulate improved blood flow, took place at a private hospital in the autumn, according to the Sun.
Speaking about McCartney’s health, a ‘friend’ said: “Luckily Paul is in very good shape. He does regular exercise and is fit.
"He eats well and does not carry any excess weight. He has always been in exceptional health, which is remarkable when you think of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle he once had.”
A coronary angioplasty involves a tube being passed through the groin up to the aorta.
Meanwhile, McCartney appeared alongside Kylie Minogue on New Years Eve.
The duo performed his recent hit ‘Dance Tonight’ on Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny programme.
