    Morrissey Donates 20 Grand To Salford Boys Club

    Morrissey has given Salford Lads Club in Manchester £20,000 to help restore the now iconic building he helped make famous.

    The organisation is currently raising funds to Grade II Listed Edwardian building, and Morrissey’s donation – originally intended to be kept private – has been made public after the Club insisted they needed the publicity to promote their campaign.

    The Salford Boys Club has become a popular destination for Smiths fans after Morrissey and his bandmates posed outside in for the art work for their seminal 1986 album ‘The Queen Is Dead’.

    • Inspired by Morrisey’s recent gift of £20,000 to the Salford Lads and Girls Club, the Club’s Treasurer, Mike Scantlebury, has called for musicians associated with the Club to “put aside their musical differences” and create a Number One record in 2008 to pay for the essential repairs still needed on the building’s roof.
