EMI have hit back against Radiohead, accusing the band of leaving the label after their demands for a new £10 million deal were refused.
Contradicting Radiohead’s own claims after they left the label to release new album ‘In Rainbows’ themselves over the internet, EMI have accused the Oxfordshire five-piece of exorborent demands after their last deal expired.
A spokesperson for the label tells The Times, “Radiohead were demanding an extraordinary amount of money and we did not believe that our other artists should have to subsidise their gains."
They state the art-rockers demanded a £3 million advance, £3 million for international marketing, and also place a £4 million figure on the rights to their previous albums – which the band also requested.
However, Radiohead’s management have denied the claims, again criticising the conduct of new owner Guy Hands and stating their belief that they “have the moral rights” to previous albums EMI paid for them to record.
