X-Factor winner Leon Jackson looks set to take the Christmas number one spot with his debut single ‘When You Believe.’
The teenager, who won the reality TV contest last weekend amid alleged voting controversy, is currently outselling his nearest rivals by three copies to one.
Midweek figures suggest that Katie Melua’s duet with the late Eva Cassidy, ‘What A Wonderful World,’ will fall one place to number two, while last year’s X-Factor winner, Leona Lewis, will take the number three spot with her single ‘Bleeding Love.’
The real success story of this year’s Christmas chart, however, will be the Pogues’ ‘Fairytale Of New York,’ which is expected to chart in the top-five.
Originally released in 1987, the song has enjoyed a publicity boost this week after Radio One backtracked on a decision to censor the song following pressure from listeners.
“It's one of those songs where, as people realise it's available to buy, they'll pick up on it and start downloading which is why momentum is growing for it," a spokesman for HMV told the BBC.
