Legendary crooner Burt Bacharach will receive a lifetime achievement award at next year’s Grammy Awards.

As well as the 79-year-old songwriter, Doris Day, The Band, bluegrass banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs and violinist Itzhak Perlman will also be handed the prestigious gong at the ceremony.

All five honoured will be handed their awards on February 9 – a day before the 50th Grammy Awards take place in Los Angeles.

They all follow in the footsteps of the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Who, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie who have picked up the honour in the past.

As previously reported, Kanye West leads this year’s Grammy nominations with eight, while Amy Winehouse has picked up an impressive six.
