American jazz and r & b music producer Joel Dorn died of a heart attack in New York yesterday (December 17). He was 65.
Dorn is perhaps most well known on these shores for his work with Roberta Flack on the tracks ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ (which, of course, was later covered by The Fugees) and ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.’
As well as Roberta Flack, Dorn worked with Bette Middler and a host of jazz artists throughout the Sixties and Seventies on Atlantic Records.
Edgar Bronfman Jr of Warner Music Group, said “Joel Dorn bridged the worlds of jazz and pop with enormous skill and grace."
