Female members of Hadouken! and New Young Pony Club are among a number of acts who have signed a letter calling for fast-food chain KFC to end ‘it’s suppliers’ worst abuse of chickens’.
Laura Mary-Carter of Blood Red Shoes and The Long Blondes’ Kate Jackson have also given their signature to the campaign, launched by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Europe (peta2).
The letter calls for a boycott of KFC until the fast-food company “adopt basic animal welfare standards that will improve the living and dying conditions of the birds who are unfortunate enough to end up in your buckets.”
According to peta2, birds destined for KFC restaurants suffer crippling injuries as a result of being bred to grow to large to fast.
The chickens throats are then slit while they are still conscious before they're dunked into tanks of scalding-hot water while still conscious.
"I watched the video on the peta2 site and saw how KFC treats its chickens," said Mary-Carter.
"It's so disgusting that they can get away with that. If people saw how the animals were treated, they'd never set foot in a KFC again."
