Opera singer Russell Watson has said that he didn’t think he was “going to make it” when he was omitted to hospital for emergency brain surgery.
Watson underwent a three hour operation to remove a brain tumour in October after he fell ill during recording sessions for his new album.
Speaking in his first television interview since the operation, he said that doctors described his condition as “touch and go”.
"I remember thinking 'Oh dear, I don't think I'm going to make it this time'."
It was the second time in twelve months that Watson had undergone surgery to remove the tumour.
"I actually felt like I was well on the road to recovery and then I went for a follow-up scan a little while ago and they told me there was some re-growth, but obviously I wasn't aware of the severity until the day I was rushed into hospital,” he said.
"It was very scary. My vision had gone, and basically when I was rushed into hospital I was very, very ill and, there was no question, the doctors told me when I arrived it was touch and go.
"I wasn't really that aware of what was going on anyway. I was flitting in and out of consciousness. I remember hearing lots of medical people saying words like 'haemorrhage' and lots of very scary things," he said.
Watson’s album, ‘Outside,’ is currently at number 24 in the UK album charts.
