Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has been formally charged with DUI (Driving Under the Influence) and could face up to a year behind bars.
The singer has also been charged with refusing to a chemical test when he was pulled over by police on November 21 in Los Angeles. Police said that the rocker showed signs of impairment and that he failed sobriety tests carried out.
In a statement, Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said that Weiland faces "maximum penalty of one year county jail and a $1,000 fine, and a minimum penalty eight days in jail." He could also have his car impounded.
To add gravitas to his charge, Weiland was previously convicted of DUI in 2003 and if found guilty this time, a prison sentence looks certain. His arraignment is due to take place today (December 13).
Weiland was also charged with domestic violence in 2001 and for crack cocaine possession in 1995.
