Ike Turner, US soul legend and the former husband of Tina Turner, has died aged 76.
Turner died at his San Macros home outside San Diego, California. No cause of death has been issued.
Despite his pioneering work alongside Tina Turner on songs throughout the 1960s and 70s, he is most remembered for his volatile relationship with his former wife, who accused him of abuse.
Scott Hanover, a representative at Turner’s management company said yesterday: "Ike Turner passed away this morning. He was at his home."
Along with Tina Turner, Mr Turner penned the classics ‘River Deep-Mountain High’ and ‘I Want To Take You Higher.’
Michele Schweitzer, a spokeswoman for Tina Turner told the BBC: "Tina is aware that Ike passed away earlier today.
"She has not had any contact with him in 35 years. No further comment will be made."
In 2001, Mr Turner denied his former wife’s allegations of abuse.
Earlier this year, his career received a boost when he picked up a Grammy in the Traditional Blues Album category for ‘Risin' With the Blues.’
