A lock of John Lennon’s hair has been sold for £24,000 at an auction of Beatles memorabilia.
The unusual item was the highlight of the Betty Glasow collection – which also included film memorabilia.
Glasow was personally given the lock by Lennon when the Beatles filmed ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Help’ in the 60s, reports the BBC.
The lock was attached to Lennon’s 1965 book ‘A Spaniard In The Works’ and accompanied by the message: "To Betty, lots of love and hair, from John Lennon xx."
The item, which was only expected to raise in between £2,000 and £3,000, was sold to an undisclosed telephone bidder.
"To have some of Lennon's hair along with a signed note from him really does give it fantastic provenance and authenticity,” said Francesca Collin, of Gorringes auction house.
"Collections of this kind are rare and the hair in particular is a real one-off for Beatles collectors."
