Members of Ireland’s National Trust have asked for U2’s plans to build a skyscraper in Ireland to receive “proper public consultation.”
As it stands, the band’s proposal to build the ‘U2 Tower’ in Dublin’s south docklands region is not subject to planning permission as it will form part of an overall regeneration scheme.
Ian Lumley, an officer for An Taisce, the country’s National Trust, has again expressed his concern that the environmental impact of the project hasn’t been taken into consideration.
"We have raised concerns about the overall lack of a strategy in Dublin to deal with global warming on developments in the docklands area, north and south of the River Liffey," he said.
Lumley added that it would be “preferable” that the tower went through the correct planning procedure because “there is a sense of it being done in a far too behind-the-scenes manner."
He raised similar concerns about the tower, which would become Ireland’s biggest building, in November.
Construction plans include a huge studio for the band, which would form the buildings summit, reports AFP.
