Leona Lewis has maintained her stronghold at the top of the UK charts for the fourth successive week with her album ‘Spirit’ and single ‘Bleeding Love’ – a track which has been at the top for seven weeks.
However, the most interesting thing about this week’s chart is the number of Christmas tracks that have bombarded the top 40.
A total of eight Christmas favourites have entered the singles chart thanks to download sales with the approach of the festive season.
Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ came in at nine while The Pogues & Kirsty McColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ came in at 12.
Other entries came in the shape of Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ (23), Andy Williams’ ‘The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (25), Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’ (27), Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ (33), Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ (37) and Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’(38).
