Pioneering German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen has died aged 79.
It was confirmed yesterday that he had died at his home in Kuerton, Germany on Wednesday, although the cause of death was not given.
Stockhausen was celebrated as one of the 20th century's most influential musicians, melding classical, electronic and avant-garde throughout his career.
His place in pop culture was cemented with his inclusion on The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band cover, and he is widely credited as being an influence on such fellow pioneers as Miles Davis, Brian Eno, Bjork and The Aphex Twin.
