US rapper Jay-Z reportedly faces being dropped by his own record company because of his ‘excessive demands.’
It had been claimed that Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, was keen to leave his position as president of Def Jam Records, a subsidiary of Universal, after Jermaine Dupri was appointed as the president of their urban music division in February.
However, reports suggest that Def Jam bosses are considering dropping the artist after talks to extend his contract with Universal, which expires later this month, stalled.
A source told the New York Daily News: "People have lost count of how many times he's come out of retirement.
"Everybody knows he's not around the office much. Everybody at Universal loves him, but they can't justify paying him the money he wants when so many people have been laid off."
Jay-Z received widespread critical acclaim for his latest album, ‘American Gangster,’ which topped the US charts last month.
