'This Is The Life' is accessible folk-pop which strums along quite nicely, helped along the way by a distinctively rich vocal. Unfortunately, the pleasant melodies are overshadowed by the fact that it’s all a bit unmemorable really. It’s got a hint of the esoteric at the beginning which alas, is lost, as the predictable structure laid out is given a quick run through in order to reach its predictable resolve. So, it sets the scene effectively, but at the cost of sounding formulaic, a tad basically, and somewhere in between monotonous and increasingly irritating. If nothing else, Amy MacDonald provides a perfect background for the campfire.
Released 10/12/07 on Mercury.
