Blur and KT Tunstall are amongst the artists contributing their musical tips on a free DVD designed to get young people to learn instruments.
The Arts Council of England are giving away the DVDs which feature popular musicians relaying secrets on how to perform well known songs.
Dave Rowntree of Blur, who teaches the drums, said: "Lots of people learn by playing along to records. This is an extra incentive.
"I certainly remember when we first signed a record contract, there was a guy at our record company called Dave Balfe who used to be in Teardrop Explodes," continued the drummer.
"He showed us how to play a keyboard line from one of their songs and we fell over ourselves.
"There's something kind of special about hearing it from the original musician. They were a hero band for us," reports the BBC.
Other artists contributing to the DVD are Michelle Stoddart from The Magic Numbers and Tim Wanstall from Athlete.
People can get their hands on the DVD by visiting the Now Play It website.
