Having relinquished his Martian suffix and revelling in his newfound self-styled status as the king of Grindie, ‘Get By (Be Good)’ sees Hip-Hop trailblazer Marvin take an observational stomp through the council estates of Brixton; highlighting the gritty grind of everyday London living, fuelled by uncompromising lyrics which are spat across an unbending and hard-nosed drum pattern. Oyster Cards, CCTV, terrorism and street dealers are all at the mercy of Marvin’s intelligent brutal honesty and subtlety scrutinised by someone who tells it how it is. It’s a stunning track through and through, the ideal ambassador to 2008’s debut album ‘Devil In The Distance’ and one that places Marvin firmly on top of his game.
Released 03/12/07 on No Carbon Records.
