Radiohead and Prince will both miss out on the chance to receive nominations for next year’s BRIT Awards because of voting regulations.
Only artists who have enjoyed a top-75 album or single in the last 16 months are eligible for consideration by the voting panel.
The way in which both Radiohead and Prince released their albums means that they won’t be in the running for two of the ceremonies biggest awards, reports the BBC.
Radiohead initially made their latest album, ‘In Rainbows,’ available via download only through their website, while Prince gave away his LP, ‘Planet Earth,’ with a supplement of The Mail On Sunday.
Neither methods of release comply with UK chart regulations.
Radiohead would have been in the running for Best British Group and Best British Album at the awards, while Prince could have been nominated for Best International Solo Artist and Best International Album.
A spokesperson for Radiohead has said that they didn’t expect to be in the running for any awards.
