Morrissey’s legal team have given The NME until later today to publish a retraction for their treatment of The Smiths star in their controversial article.
If Editor Conor McNicholas does not comply with their demands, then he will face legal proceedings in relation to the piece, reports the BBC.
The whole saga is stooped in controversy, with the journalist who carried out the interview, Tim Jonze, personally telling Morrissey’s manager that the text in the piece had nothing to do with him and that it did not reflect his beliefs.
The NME have been accused of a “character assassination” on Morrissey, even though McNicholas claims that their voice was “balanced and fair.”
There have been mixed responses to the affair, with some condemning Morrissey’s opinion and others knocking the NME for allegedly “framing” the singer.
