Jay-Z: Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' Is Genius

It seems everyone has an opinion on Radiohead’s release of ‘In Rainbows’ and those opinions are split between praise and scorn.

While Lily Allen thinks the band are “arrogant” and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan a “one trick pony” Jay Z is the latest musician to come out in praise of the pay-what-you-want download release.

He told the Guardian: “What Radiohead did with their album was a genius idea. I’m gonna pay $50 for it.”

Meanwhile, Hot Chip’s  Joe Goddard has admitted that he couldn’t even download the album because Radiohead’s website was so busy.

He told Spinner: I went onto the Radiohead website and put myself in the queue to get the album. It took so long that in the end; I just went to the different blogs and downloaded it from there because I just wanted to hear it.

“Even though I’m part of a band that relies on people spending their own money for me to have a career, I didn’t pay any money to get that record.”

    • I think how Radiohead released In Rainbows was great. It’s made everybody think about how to move forward with downloading. People dont mind paying for good quality official downloads, but most of us will always pay as little as possible. But I also think only a band of Radiohead’s stature can get away with this. There is so much legal free stuff on the net for new and up and coming bands, but people don’t care as 99.9% of it is rubbish.

    • i agree. i bought radiohead’s album because i really respect them as a band and wanted to give money to show that. i don’t think i will pay for alot of albums out there, especially medicore mainstream ones. i will continue downloading it for free. only well respected bands like radiohead can do this. funny how capitalism works - ya gotta be good, REAL good, and have a loyal fanbase if you want to make money (and music) via digital downloading nowadays.
