A 10ft signed Les Paul replica guitar signed by Paul McCartney sparked a bidding at a charity auction last night (November 20th).
The guitar, which eventually sold for £60,000, was one of sixty-two replica signed guitars which were auctioned to raise money for three charities.
Taking place at the indigO2 club at the O2 Arena, the auction also included customized guitars from Noel Gallagher, Brian May, Led Zeppelin and Paul Weller.
McCartney’s guitar sold for £49,000 more than Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood’s guitar, which was the second most popular of the night, raising £11,000.
On hearing about the charitable donation for his guitar, McCartney said: I'm really amazed and very happy that the guitar went for so much and for such a great cause."
The evening eventually raised over £200,000 which will be split equally between the Nordoff–Robbins Music Therapy, The Prince’s Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust.
