Leona Lewis Beats Arctic Monkeys To Set New Album Record

Spice Girls are beaten...

Leona Lewis has outsold the Arctic Monkeys to grab the fastest selling debut album of all time in Britain.

The former X-Factor winner’s debut, ‘Spirit,’ sold 375,000 copies in its first week – over 12,000 more than the previous record held by Arctic Monkeys', ‘Whatever people Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.’

The triumph completes a chart double for Lewis, whose single, ‘Bleeding Love,’ is also top of the singles charts for a forth week.

Elsewhere in the album charts, the Spice Girls greatest hits compilation went in at number 2, two places ahead of Led Zeppelin’s digitally re-mastered retrospective, ‘Mothership.’

The Killers b-sides and rarities album, ‘Sawdust,’ also broke into the top-10 at number 7.

Meanwhile, the singles charts saw Bloc Party enter at number 8 with their new song, ‘Flux.’

The British record for the fastest selling album is still held by Oasis, who sold 813,000 copies of their 1997 album, ‘Be Here Now.’

  • Oh well, we all know Leona Lewis is disposable trash used as a corporate mouth piece by a record label to sell more predictable songs not written by her to the masses. She’ll be forgotten in due time. While the Arctics go down in history for being a awesome rock n roll band that wrote their own tunes, despite their hype.

  • @Gigwise It's because the only way they could get Dave Rowntree to play the drums was to hypnotise him. Too strenuous otherwise, poor chap.
