Arriving at the end of a 12 month period dominated by synthesisers and throbbing bass lines, one could accuse Ice, Sea, Dead People of turning up to the party the wrong side of fashionably late. To do that would be to dismiss them too early, however. These self confessed “bored, geeky teenagers with skinny girl wrists” from Bedford still believe in the fine craft of art-punk, which – in their debut single ‘Hence:Elvis’ – manifests itself as a rampant, hard-hitting profusion of smashing guitars and basslines that sound as aggressive as Craig Sharps spitting vocals. “J'habite a Bedford en Angleterre,” he spits, before adding as bluntly as a bored, geeky teenager does, “J’habite a Bedford I just don’t care.” For a first single, ‘Hence:Elvis,’ sound refreshingly complete. Perhaps the party is only just getting started?
