Psapp - 'Tiger, My Friend' (Domino Records) Released 19/11/07

Psapp are a London based duo, consisting of Galia Durant and Carim Clasmann, who create electronic pop sounds in a way that no other band could ever hope to capture. Their main trick is the use of toys and samples of everyday sounds to make enchanting and entrancing music.
 
‘Tiger, My Friend’ was originally released in 2004 but after last year spent touring extensively, they are set to re-release it, hopefully with greater interest from the masses. Their music has also been used on several TV series’, the theme tune to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ being one. The album is full of charm, and luckily falls the right side of quirky- how embarrassing this could be if they weren’t sincere and so good at pulling it off! The squeaky toys are present throughout, and on some tracks such as ‘About Fun’ are at the forefront of it all, but Psapp never lose their musicality, the touching melodies and gentle harmonies run through the album. Each song is a well crafted gem. ‘The Counter’ stands out with its haunting piano theme, and lyrically ‘Leaving In Coffins’ and ‘King Kong’ are honest and moving.
 
The songs are light, delicate and crystal clear- Clasmann the producer, has the knack here. Durant’s voice, gentle and soothing, shines through each of the songs, complementing them brilliantly. She also has an obsession with cats, and you can’t help feeling that this is music only a cat lover could create! Listening to it is the aural equivalent of relaxing with your favourite feline, gently caressing you to a blissed out state. The cats also feature in the live shows, though handmade ones that re thrown to the crowd!
 
Psapp have created an album overflowing with charm, providing an antidote to mainstream blandness, and done it with a quiet unassumingness. Perfect for your cold, wet winter afternoons, put it on and smile.
