Just Jack has described the afternoon that he spent in the studio with Kylie Minogue as “pleasantly surreal.”
The London singer – real name Jack Allsop – teamed up with Minogue earlier this year after it emerged that she admired his second album, ‘Overtones.’
“There was a rumoured thing at the beginning of the year that she’d heard the album and liked it and there’d been some talk between my management and various people that maybe I’d be able to write a song for [Minogue’s] new album (‘X’),” Allsop told Gigwise.
“I would have liked to have done that but at the time everything was just going nuts so I didn’t have time to do it," he added. "I would have loved to though.”
Instead of working on Minogue’s new album, the pair eventually collaborated on a re-recording of his song, ‘I Talk Too Much,’ for the US release of his album.
“When the album was pencilled in in the States they wanted an exclusive track,” Allsop revealed. “They often want something that’s not on the UK release and we approached her management and said ‘we know that Kylie quite likes the record and maybe she’s like to do a collaboration on a new track or maybe add some vocals on one of the tracks on there,’ and she really liked this track, ‘I Talk Too Much.’”
He continued: “She sort of had an idea of how it could be done with two people and I sort of had the same idea and we spoke on the phone a few times and she came down to the studio and recorded her vocals and it was cool. It was a pleasantly surreal afternoon.”
Despite keeping the collaboration low key, Allsop said that he was thrilled to have worked with the singer.
“The next day when we were editing it and mixing it we just kept on looking at each other, me and my co-producer, going Kylie Minogue is singing one of your songs which is not a normal thing at all, so it was cool.”
