The mother of Kanye West, who was often seen by the rappers side at awards ceremonies, has died, a spokesperson for West has confirmed.
Donda West, aged 58, died on Saturday night (November 10th) at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles.
West’s spokesperson has asked for anonymity as not all family members have been notified of the tragedy. A cause of death has not been released, reports AP.
The strong relationship that West shared with his mother was highlighted in his 2005 song, ‘Hey Mama,’ where he praised his mother for supporting him.
As well as releasing the book, ‘Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star,’ earlier this year, Donda West was also the chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation, which battled to reduce dropout rates in American schools.
The foundations first initiative, ‘Loop Dreams’ – which helps children get involved in music – was devised jointly by West and his mother.
