Four people were shot dead during a Carl Cox DJ set in Caracas, Venezuela at the weekend.
The 45-year-old heavyweight DJ was playing Red Noise at the La Rinconada Terrace on Saturday (November 3), when the gunman began shooting in the audience just a few tracks into Cox’s set.
As well as the four casualties, a further nine people were injured in the shooting. Local police have now launched a full investigation into the horrific incident.
Cox has released an impassioned statement, saying: “I am deeply shocked and still stunned by the events of this Saturday. My condolences go out to the victims that were caught up in this horrific act.
“I am informed that it was gang related, and feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner when the event was full of 7,000 people having fun.”
Videos have appeared on Youtube since the shooting, some with actual footage of the dead bodies in the aftermath.
Cox’s statement continues: "I feel so sad that anybody would act in such a manner. I find it such a sad moment in electronic music, as this was probably one of the best set up shows I had played in South America - a sign of real progress...yet utterly hijacked by this mindless act.
"Again, my heart goes out to those that have died or been injured. This is NOT what the dance scene is about and is a million miles away from what I want to do, or promote."
