Prince Launches Legal Clampdown Against His Own Fans Add to My Fav Bands List

Prince has launched an extraordinary legal clampdown against his own fan websites.

The singer’s three largest web communities, Prinfams, Housequake and Prince.org have all received legal notices to remove all “photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to Prince's likeness.”

Prince’s demands – which include asking the websites to remove fan's own photographs of Prince inspired tattoos and Prince inspired number plates – have forced the web communities to create, PrinceFansUnited, in a bid to challenge the legal action.

In a statement on their official website, PrinceFansUnited said that the requests are a “violation of the freedom of speech and should not be allowed.”

They added: “It is their hope that Prince will reconsider his position and allow these fansites to continue their existence without constant threats from Prince and his attorneys. Should this not be possible, the fansites are fully prepared to defend their position in the proper court of law, as well as fully prosecute any claims to which they are justly entitled.”

PrinceFansUnited maintain that the content on each of their websites is “within the law.”

Prince has yet to release any official explanation on the grounds of the legal action.

  • The main website in this debacle does protest 2 much. This is all about a Fan website wanting power over an artists rights. The website once allowed bootlegging video & music, downloading videos, allowed infringement copyright pictures on website. The website cleaned house only due receiving DMCA infringement notice.

  • These articles are misleading and misinformed. Housequake.com had a video forum full of bootlegs and allowed members to upload a bunch of unauthorized stuff, and when Prince asked for them to be removed they thumbed their nose at him. Ask Housequake.com about their infamous video forum.

  • downloading bootlegs is not illegal. This is just another attempt by an artist to control what fans say about him,I hate Prince and I could care less about those websites, but he’s trying to control things so no one can post their opinions of the old has-been.
