Alpha Upbeat - 'Fantastic Six'

CSS have a lot to answer for. Their brand of pure pop perfection is being imitated by just about everyone these days, and Copenhagen’s offering, Alpha Upbeat, is no exception. Unfortunately just like all the other faux discothequers, they don’t quite cut the mustard. Debut single 'Fantastic Six' starts out with great glittery intentions, with boy/girl layered pop vocals, disco beats, and Major Tom references. But before long it becomes glaringly obvious that this should be sung by a squeaky clean H from Steps, rather than a cooler than cool Lovefoxxx. Pop lyrics aren’t exactly known for their Shakespearean qualities, but even “I’m sci-fi…24/7 from heaven” is pushing the boundaries of simplicity a tad. Rocket science this band aint, but if unadulterated fun is what you’re after, then Alpha Upbeat have got it in shiny spades.
